What to Expect at the 75th NCAFP Winter Family Physicians Weekend

One of the best opportunities all year for family physicians to connect, learn and share experiences is almost here. The North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians will host its 75th Winter Family Physicians Weekend starting Nov. 29, with Alo and Avance Care among the sponsors.

Alo leaders and our dedicated Avance Care physicians are gearing up for some healthy discussions about family medicine - what’s going well, where there are opportunities to improve, and how to work better together for improved health in North Carolina. Here are their thoughts on what to expect.

Dr. Amanda Steventon, Avance Care Medical Director, is looking forward to participating in the NCAFP Advocacy Committee meeting during the conference: “It's always a great opportunity to contribute to our Family Medicine physicians’ important work and connect with colleagues who share our passion for Family Medicine specialty. I enjoy the platform to discuss important advocacy issues and make a meaningful impact. I'm looking forward to engaging in productive discussions and collaborating with fellow members of the committee.”

Dr. Carson Rounds, Avance Care Midtown Charlotte Co-Owner, sees the conference as a combination of a family reunion and an educational experience: “One of my earliest memories of attending an NCAFP meeting was during my residency. Frank Leak of Clinton Medical Clinic was installed as President at the Adams Mark Hotel in Charlotte.  I still remember his installation speech.  It was an honor several years later to become one of his partners and later to be installed as NCAFP President myself.”

Dr. Paul Hain, Alo Chief Clinical Officer, loves the opportunity to engage with physicians from across the state, and hear about their passions, interests, and challenges: “Family physicians are so busy throughout the year; it’s nice for them to have the opportunity to get away from their practices and have a few days to reflect on what’s working for them and what’s not.”

Lisa Golden, Alo and Avance Care Chief Operating Officer, agrees with Dr. Hain: “The Winter Family Physicians Weekend is the Super Bowl of physician conferences. We love sponsoring this event; we get to meet and hear from so many physicians on the front lines, about what their challenges are and what they need. We also love that many of our Avance Care physicians are able to take care of their CME—the breadth of continuing education options this year is outstanding!”

And finally, Dr. Craig White, Davidson Family Medicine Founder and Lead Physician, has been attending the conference for over 30 years with his wife, Dr. Trisha White, and says the Weekend feels like “an annual reunion, a time to reconnect with old friends and colleagues from across the state.”

Want to meet one of these folks at the conference? Stop by our booth in the foyer of the presentation hall and say hello! Or join us for a coffee meeting or dinner. You can send us a note or meeting request here.
